The personal and financial burden of competition at Provincial and National levels is often very high. Northern Ontario District (NOD) athletes who achieve this level are often not well recognized nor funded adequately by other forms of financial support such as corporate sponsorships or scholarship funding.
NOD wishes to provide recognition of achievement and support in the form of a bursary to assist developing athletes to pursue their goals.
Through its annual budgetary process, the NOD may set aside funding for Elite Athlete Bursaries. A maximum of six (6) bursaries up to and not exceeding $250.00 may be awarded on an annual basis. Awards will be made to eligible NOD athletes through the selection process outlined below.
Both performance excellence and community involvement are essential to the future development of cross-country skiing in Northern Ontario and throughout Canada. The intent of this Bursary is to recognize both excellence in performance and to instil a culture of community involvement and volunteerism as essential foundations to the sport.
Successful applicants will be judged on:
- His/her level of competitive achievement; and
- Their contribution towards the development of the sport of cross-country skiing locally, regionally and/or nationally.
